1/29/2010 update from her foster: Tazzy is going great!! She is a wonderful baby full of energy and life. She just needs to gain a few more pounds and she'll be ready for adoption. That ankle will still have to be monitored just to make sure that it does not get any worse and as she ages arthritis is a possibility. Other than that just some old scars that unfortunatelly will never go away. She is absolutely wonderful around people and other dogs big or small. She loves to wag her (formerly broken) tail which now goes about a mile a minute.
1/7/2010 update from her foster: Tazzy is doing great. All her wounds have healed up nicely, no infection, just scarring. She still favors her right back leg and we are watching that joint closely (it's hoped surgery will not be needed), but now it's just a matter of putting on some muscle and weight. She is still about 25 pounds underweight. She is the sweetest most thankful furbaby. She just loves cuddles and kisses. There is not an agressive bone in her body after all she has been though, I think that's amazing. She's a one of a kind who will make a devoted family member to the right family.
12/13 update from her foster: Tazzy is improving and is stable. She still requires daily dressing changes on several of her deeper wounds. Since the wounds were grossly contaminated it is a daily challenge to continue the healing process and developing a major infection is still a constant worry. The joint on Tazzy's right back leg still has a lot of side to side movement where it should only move forward and backwards. Taz still requires an ace splint on that leg to limit side to side mobility of the joint. It is hoped and with a lot of prayers that the tendons around this joint will scar and act like a brace to hold the joint in place, if not she will require a surgery to stabilize this joint which would result in her losing the mobility in that joint. Tazzy has been great through this entire process she is one of the easiest dog I have ever worked with. When changing her dressing which is a slightly painful she responds with a lick. Tazzy is an inspiration because she is so up beat and happy which seems odd and impossible when you realize the ordeal she has gone through. She gets along great with the other big dogs, but the smaller dogs tend to make her a little nervous. When we first brought her home she had emotional scars as bad or worse then her physical ones, she would cower when spoken to, and jump at any loud noise. Thankfully both her emotional and physical wounds are healing now that she is in a foster home where she knows she is loved and cared for. I can tell Tazzy is very thankful and wants to give everyone e-kisses that has given her a second chance at life. Butters (the boxer) was so impressed by Tazzy and her horrific story he donated his Christmas fund for her care.
12/3 update: Tazzy will go home today to her foster after having been at the vets since Thanksgiving. Her vet bill is more than what was anticipated and she will have other surgeries to repair the muscle/skin that was lost at her ankles. The muscle was gone down to the bone and skin grafts were done, but more work is expected. The vets are amazed she can stand; and of course, she hasn't stopped wagging her poor, broken tail...this is one thankful girl, and we are thankful too for the help you are giving us and the good wishes being sent. Thank you.
12/1/2009 Tazzy was turned over to URKY on Thanksgiving. She has been at the vets since that time; injuries are infected and the vets tell us they are amazed she can stand on her hind legs. Tazzy's (her new name for her new life!) former sadistic owner would get drugged up and play 'car games' with Tazzy. We can not yet disclose some information about this case, but suffice to say, people took a risk getting this dog to safety. Now we have to get her healthy and into a home where she will never suffer again AND we need to pay nearly $1,600 in vet bills for her.....URKY's emergency vetting fund is nearly empty...depleated by the Mt. Vernon hoarder dogs, the Fleming mill dogs, and on and on...PLEASE help us pay Tazzy's bill. When Tazzy is able to leave the vets, we have a safe foster home for her....the same wonderful people who helped bring Butters the Boxer back to health...but URKY has to pay Tazzy's bills...so PLEASE, donate even a little...it all adds up. There is a chip in below or you can donate from any of the donation buttons on this site, or you can mail a check to URKY, 1708 Houndstooth Glen, Lexington, KY 40515.
